Part 1 of 4: Effective Governance in an Open Wildfire Data Ecosystem

Written by James Puerini and Cole Von Glahn

As the scale of catastrophic wildfire increases, effective management and response can only keep pace with access to accurate, actionable data.  Currently, however, our data and technology systems remain fragmented across agencies, levels of government, and non-governmental stakeholders.

To help bridge these gaps, CWI is partnering with the Environmental Policy Innovation Center (EPIC) on a new blog series that explores the future of wildfire intelligence. Our first post, "Effective Governance in an Open Wildfire Data Ecosystem," highlights the foundational governance structures needed to move beyond data and technology silos.

As a solution, this initial installment explores how a federated, national wildfire intelligence capability can turn scattered scientific data into a coordinated operational approach. By integrating existing systems, we can empower researchers and wildfire management personnel with the data they need to address the growing risks of catastrophic wildfire.
